Marketing Consultant, Classical Music Genre

Primary Wave seeks a consultant to help market and promote classical music including the celebrated Canadian pianist Glenn Gould.  The consultant will be tasked with marketing strategy and execution for the Glenn Gould catalog.  She/he will be responsible for generating innovative and profitable marketing opportunities including, but not limited to:

 

– Assisting in the development of original music-centric media content (film, TV, theatrical opportunities)

– Catalog A&R exploitation (selecting potential releases from the CBC archives and working with CBC, Sony Music distributors & various 3rd parties to develop a release schedule and project manage the campaigns)

– Coordinating with archive company to manage the estate assets

– Ongoing communication within the classical music community and champion the Glenn Gould legacy

– Responsible for gathering, organizing, and disseminating all appropriate catalog assets and information internally, assuring that Primary Wave’s Digital Marketing and Music Synchronization teams are consistently up to speed.  The consultant will also help with the creation of relevant marketing tools including pitch decks, one-sheets, and visual sizzle reels.

– Brainstorming & executing creative marketing campaigns for Gould

 

The ideal candidate will have:

– Significant knowledge and passion of classical music including Gould’s music and legacy

– A network of meaningful relationships across the Classical music genre and community

– Familiarity with the nuances of music IP management

– Experience speaking directly to labels, agents, distributors

– Strong organizational skills

– Creative vision and appetite for marketing innovation

– Experience with the promotion of estate/iconic IP preferred

Digital Design Intern (New York, NY – Fall 2019)

Primary Wave Entertainment is seeking college students to participate in our internship program in either the New York or Los Angeles office. The Digital Design Intern will produce marketing content for Primary Wave clients including social media graphics, ads, and gifs, and will work closely with the digital marketing department to assist with social media campaigns.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Passionate about music and the marketing & promotion of it!
  • Marketing, Graphic Design, Fine Art, or Visual Communications majors preferred
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign is a major plus!
  • Excellent time management skills with an ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in photo retouching is a major plus!
  • Experience with HTML layout and/or email layout is a major plus!

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the creation of social media and website assets
  • Brainstorm unique and engaging concepts to assist the marketing department with campaign creation
  • Create designs for digital marketing campaigns
  • craft pitch letters to DSP editors & independent playlisters
  • Resizing files and manipulating assets for production
  • Develop branding material including templates for presentations and reports

Assignment:

In lieu of a cover letter, come up with a Social media tactic for your favorite artist, album that could be coming out, an upcoming tour, etc. (This can be anything from a Social Media or e-mail campaign, imaginative content idea, leveraging platform, etc.)  Get creative!

Primary Wave is seeking to hire an intern in NYC to focus on Publicity.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the publicity department with gathering press materials, tour press, etc.
  • Communicate and build relationships with current or prospective clients
  • Support the team in college outreach
  • Perform research activities

Requirements:

  • Students should be interested in all aspects of public relations/publicity.
  • Experience in tour press releases
  • Skill in pitching, writing pitches a plus.
  • Solid understanding of the different social networks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Assignment:

Put together a publicity pitch for one of our artists.

Publishing Intern (New York, NY – Fall 2019)

A&R: 

Responsibilities
– Gathering song streaming performance data and analyzing roster and catalog information
– Measuring audience sizes and following of various labels, publishers and specific artists

Requirements

– Must have a general understanding of music publishing

-Ability to critique a song and give notes / creative input
– Previous work experience with record labels and/or music publishers is preferred

Assignment: Create a Playlist of up and coming artists, pick 1 artist and devise a plan to pitch and promote them.

Sync:

Responsibilities

– Data entry
– Research master/sync license ownership
– Listen and digest music for tagging purposes for ingestion

Requirements

– Must have strong knowledge of copyrights and publishing, and synchronization license.
– Must have a clear understanding of the difference between compositions and master recording.

Assignment: Choose your favorite film, TV show, ad, or game and describe what you like about the music, what about it stands out.

Branding and Marketing Intern (New York, NY – Fall 2019) 

Primary Wave is seeking to hire an intern in NYC to focus on Branding and Marketing.

Responsibilities:

To support our music publishing catalog business by identifying marketing opportunities that will result in increasing the net publishing shares for that catalog.  This is a huge priority when working at a music publishing company and the work could include the assistance in any one of the following areas listed below:

  • Assist in the creation of marketing materials including pitch decks, artist one-sheets, and sizzle reels
  • Conduct brand/agency research in an effort to identify potential partnerships and appropriate contacts
  • Performing an analysis of our artists to ascertain artist history and demographic data
  • Contribute to team ideation sessions for potential new artists/catalog initiatives
  • Assist team in liaising with other departments including synch team, artist managers, and digital design
  • Perform standard clerical tasks including scheduling, asset organization, and business-related errands.
  • Assist in the execution of event marketing activations (sponsorships) and company events

Requirements:

  • Have experience in Photoshop/Illustrator/Creative suite software
  • Proficient in Microsoft office suite
  • Familiarity with Marketing, advertising, brand licensing, event activations and sponsorships

Secondary:

Event management may be a possible opportunity during your tenure as an intern.  While there are no guarantees, we may invite you to participate in on-site event activation for a brand or Primary Wave event where you’ll learn new skills on activation and planning.  This work may entail;

  • Sourcing third-party cost
  • On-site management include set up and tear down of materials
  • Contributing to creative ideas for activation elements
  • Building presentation materials and researching brands for possible sponsorship opportunities

Assignment:

In lieu of a cover letter, please select one or two artists from our current publishing catalog and identify and draft a marketing strategy on how you would seek ways to help market their catalogs, copyrights and/or intellectual property that would generate an increase in the net publishing share (NPS).  Research the brand marketplace and develop a power-point presentation that justifies your rationale, your approach, and the idea.  Please make sure ideas are not blue sky, but realistic and attainable and to include how your idea will have an impact on the NPS.  We are excited to see what you have to say, be bold, think big, be creative!
