Legendary reggae artist Toots and the Maytals have hit the road once again this summer. The U.S. tour kicked off on May 23 at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. To celebrate the summer tour dates, the band has unveiled their Spotify Singles which are available now and can be streamed here. As part of the streaming platform’s coveted initiative, the Grammy winner performed “A Song Call Marley,” as well as a new interpretation of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”
Recorded live at the Spotify studio, “A Song Call Marley”, which he premiered last summer on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, was the first piece of new music from the Grammy winner in six years and is a look back at Toots’s early friendship with Bob Marley. “We used to uplift each other with our words,” the songwriter said. He continues, “I had known Bob for a long time, and we used to be very close. He always loved my songs, and I’ve always loved his songs … his ideas … he’s a great guy.” Toots adds his own signature and vibe to “Take Me Home, Country Roads” which he originally covered and recorded in 1973 on his In The Dark album. In his version, he replaces “West Virginia” with “West Jamaica” making the song a hit with audiences and a staple at his live shows.
Fans will be able to hear those tracks and more during the band’s summer tour which is currently underway. Toots will be on the road through mid-September hitting major markets across the States including two shows in Brooklyn at Brooklyn Bowl on June 18 and 19, as well as a stop at Reggae on the River on August 4 and KAABOO Fest on September 15. All tour dates are listed below and tickets are now on sale. Toots and the Maytals will be offering various VIP packages which will include meet & greet, signed merchandise, invite to soundcheck, and more.
