Primary Wave and DEVO to launch ‘Devolutionary Times’ YouTube series

via MusicAlly.com

New wave pioneers Devo are taking a lap of honour 52 years after they formed. A farewell tour kicks off this September in North America, while Netflix will debut a long-form documentary (also called ‘Devo’) in August. But the band are also working with Primary Wave on an interesting YouTube activation over the coming months. It’s called ‘Devolutionary Times’ and will be a bi-weekly series that premieres restored videos and films from the band’s archives.

And this is a big deal for fans, because Devo were one of the most innovative artists with music videos in the early days of that medium. The first episode spotlights a high-definition restoration of ‘The Truth About De-Evolution’, a short film made in 1976 and showed before the band’s concerts at the time.

The project has been in the works for a while: ‘Devolutionary Times’ was first trailed on the band’s YouTube channel in May 2024. The series will now accompany the farewell tour and documentary alongside other marketing activity – their TikTok account is also mining the band’s video archives.

Sun Records & McIntosh Honor Johnny Cash With New Vinyl

Sun Records and McIntosh have teamed up to honor the legacy of Johnny Cash through the release of an 18-track vinyl of remastered and rarely heard recordings, dubbed McIntosh Sessions Volume 2: Pure Johnny Cash. The reworked tracks include “Train of Love,” “Ballad of a Teenage Queen,” “I Walk the Line” and many more.

“Sam Phillips had a way of capturing lightning in a bottle, and these early recordings of Johnny Cash perfectly exemplify that,” says Chase Gregory, Senior Director A&R + Sync, Sun Records. “Remastering them in high fidelity is a way of honoring that legacy with the care it deserves. This album is a glimpse into the recording session, as everything you hear was performed in one take with no overdubs. The result is a powerfully authentic, yet refined listening experience, that reminds us just how revolutionary Cash was from the very beginning.”

As part of the collaboration, McIntosh and Sun Records produced a limited-edition Sun Records MTI100 Integrated Turntable that combines a turntable, amplifier and preamplifier into one, Bluetooth-friendly design. More information on the vinyl and turntable is available here.

America: Inside “A Horse with No Name,” “Ventura Highway” & More

AMERICA: TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THEIR SONGS “A HORSE WITH NO NAME,” “SISTER GOLDEN HAIR,” AND “VENTURA HIGHWAY”
America’s “Homecoming” album cover.

The band AMERICA, formed in 1970 by Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell, and Dan Peek, became a cornerstone of the folk-rock sound in the 1970s. Their harmonies, acoustic textures, and lyrical mystique captured the spirit of the era and have continued to resonate through generations. Among their most iconic songs are “A Horse with No Name,” “Sister Golden Hair,” and “Ventura Highway”—each offering a unique snapshot of America’s creative vision and musical legacy.

“A Horse with No Name” – An Ambiguous Desert Anthem

Released in early 1972, “A Horse with No Name” was the band’s breakthrough single and remains their most recognizable song. Written by Dewey Bunnell, the track quickly reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and introduced audiences to America’s sun-soaked, mysterious soundscape.

Often interpreted as a metaphor for escapism, environmental awareness, or even spiritual searching, the song was recorded in London during a particularly rainy season—which may have inspired its desert imagery. The track stirred some controversy for its similarity to Neil Young’s vocal tone and style, but it ultimately became an anthem …
