NAMED PRESIDENT OF PRIMARY WAVE MUSIC PUBLISHING
New York, NY (March 11th, 2013) — One of the initial founding members of Primary Wave Music, Justin Shukat has been appointed to President of Primary Wave Music Publishing, a division of Primary Wave Music, one of the largest independent music publishing, marketing and talent management companies in the US. Since 2006, Shukat has continued to focus on developing and diversifying the publishing division, following the company’s initial purchase of the Kurt Cobain music catalog, among several others. Presently, Primary Wave owns over 10,000 copyrights of music from the catalogs of legends such as Steven Tyler, Hall & Oates, Chicago, Def Leppard, John Lennon and many more.
“I’m excited to be taking on the added responsibility of leading Primary Wave Music Publishing moving forward. The confidence that Larry Mestel has had in me since co-founding the company with him seven years ago, continues to push me to create a home for songwriters and artists like no other,” states Justin Shukat. “We are actively looking to sign and invest in songwriters and artists, where we can engage the full breadth of our company, including synchronization, branding, management, digital marketing and our licensing back-office.”
In addition to this new title, Justin Shukat, appointed by CEO Larry Mestel, will continue to hold his original role as General Manager of Primary Wave Music. Shukat has been working in the music industry for over 18 years and plays an integral part at Primary Wave, working closely with the company’s current roster of songwriters and producers, connecting Primary Wave’s management & publishing artists with other top creatives in the industry, as well as managing all areas of Primary Wave's synch exploitation.
“From our time at Arista to opening the doors of Primary Wave, I have worked closely with Justin for over 10 years now,” explains Larry Mestel. “With his strong relationships within the industry and his innate ability to lead a team to success, this position is a natural fit for Justin and I’m proud to have him overseeing our publishing team.”
On the Primary Wave Music Publishing roster, Shukat has heavily influenced the signing of some of the music industry’s top writers & producers including, Blake “Shy” Carter, who wrote Rob Thomas’s #1 single “Someday” and Sugarland’s 2x platinum single “Stuck Like Glue”, as well as Warner Bros. Records recording artist LP, who penned Rihanna’s Top 10 single “Cheer (Drink To That)”, Rita Ora’s UK Top 10 hit “Shine Ya Light”, as well as her own solo material, including the single “Into The Wild”, which can be heard in the Citibank commercial featuring the rock climbing scene that’s currently in rotation. He is also actively working with songwriter/producers such as Roccstar (Chris Brown, Timbaland, Busta Rhymes, Akon, Rita Ora), Ryan & Smitty (Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Cody Simpson, Gimuwine), Che Pope (who produced the album Cruel Summer for Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music crew), recording artists New Boyz, Katrina & the Waves, and many more. Prior to Primary Wave Music, Shukat held senior marketing positions at both Epic Records and Arista Records.
