New Strategic Alliance with Chicago

December 19th, 2008

Primary Wave Music Publishing has formed a strategic partnership with the members and principal writers for the rock band Chicago. The deal includes acquiring the music publishing rights and marketing the songs that Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, and James Pankow have written throughout their prolific and ongoing careers with Chicago.  Under the terms of the agreement, Primary Wave will provide a variety of marketing and administration services for the members’ extraordinary catalog of popular rock songs.

After its formation in 1967, Chicago immediately changed the landscape of contemporary music by uniquely blending melodic brass arrangements with incredible rock and roll.  The band is widely considered one of the most critically and commercially successful in American history, and has penned a prodigious repertoire of rock classics.  Among the great hits Lamm, Loughnane, and Pankow wrote for the band are “Make Me Smile,” “Saturday in the Park,” “No Tell Lover,” “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” “Colour My World,” “Just You n’ Me,” “Feeling Stronger Every Day,” “Alive Again,” “Call on Me,” and “Beginnings.”

“Chicago’s passionate and profound songs have influenced a generation of music fans,” said Larry Mestel, Chairman and CEO of Primary Wave.  “We are thrilled to be working with such prolific songwriters, and together with Robert, Lee and Jimmy, we will help to expand the reach and increase the value of their music publishing assets.”

Said Robert Lamm, “After meeting the Primary Wave team, I immediately knew that they were the ideal partner for our music.  I look forward to working alongside Primary Wave and taking our songs into uncharted territory.”  Added James Pankow, “Primary Wave's genuine interest in our craft and ambitions constantly remind us of the infinite potential of our music.”  Noted Lee Loughnane, “We are confident this partnership will take Chicago to new heights.”
