NEW YORK, NY (May 31, 2024) – In celebration of Black Music Month, Primary Wave Music is thrilled to announce the latest partnership with New York City’s Funny Face Bakery to bring two of their iconic artists to life in edible form. Famous for their hand-designed celebrity cookies, Funny Face Bakery will see the legendary James Brown and Whitney Houston, in partnership with The Estate of Whitney E. Houston, join the bakery’s growing roster of edible pop culture references and famous faces this June.
Commemorating the undeniable impact that Houston and Brown had on music history throughout their careers, the collaboration exceptionally showcases two great entertainers whose talents have continued to influence artists of today. Fit for sweet tooths and music lovers of all ages, the cookies feature the hand-piped faces of Whitney Houston and James Brown, inspired by original, iconic photos of the two, crafted onto the bakery’s classic sugar cookies.
“We’re excited to celebrate Black Music Month through our collaboration with Primary Wave. It’s an honor to pay homage to legendary artists like Whitney Houston and James Brown, whose timeless music continues to inspire and uplift,” shares the Funny Face Bakery team. “Their music brings joy and nostalgia, much like the experience of visiting our store. For those looking to enjoy our cookies without visiting our NYC stores, we offer nationwide shipping, making it possible for everyone to enjoy these special cookies wherever they may be.”
To honor artists during Black Music Month, and nod to Houston and Brown’s notable philanthropic histories, the partnership will also make a charitable contribution to the Black Music Action Coalition. In support of the non-profit’s mission of advocacy for the interests of Black artists and racial equality within the music industry, a portion of cookie sales from the exclusive collaboration will be donated. More information on the organization can be found at www.bmacoalition.org.
The limited-edition Whitney Houston and James Brown cookies will be available for purchase in-store at the bakery’s two NYC storefront locations in NoHo and Seaport, and online via funnyfacebakery.com. Available beginning Monday, June 3rd, the collaboration will be featured throughout the month of June while supplies last.
