HIS NEW PARTNERSHIP INCLUDES THE ACQUISITION OF MASON’S HIT SONG “FEELIN’ ALRIGHT”
NEW YORK, NY (March 22, 2018) – Primary Wave Music Publishing, one of the leading U.S. independent music publishing companies, announced today its partnership with legendary songwriter and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dave Mason. The agreement includes the acquisition of Mason’s hit song “Feelin’ Alright.” Mason wrote “Feelin’ Alright” at just 19 years of age. First performed by Dave in 1968 while he was with Traffic, the song has since become a rock and roll anthem. “Feelin’ Alright” went on to be covered by everyone from Gladys Knight to Isaac Hayes to the Jackson 5. The most well-known version of the song comes from Joe Cocker who covered it for his debut album, With a Little Help from My Friends, which was released in 1969. Cocker’s cover of the song became a top 40 hit and was one of his top 10 biggest hits ever.
“As a song writer it is refreshing to be part of an organization that doesn’t just acquire catalogue, but actually involves themselves in the artist, i.e. social media, branding, and general development of the artist and his work,” says Mason. He goes on, “I am excited to be working with Larry Mestel and all the people that make up the Primary Wave team.”
Lawrence Mestel, CEO & Founder of Primary Wave Music Publishing, adds, “I have followed and admired Dave since his days in Traffic. He is an incredible songwriter and musician and we’re thrilled to have him join the Primary Wave Music Publishing family.”
